About Frontier Fintech Summit
Emerging markets worldwide have traditionally sought investment in commodity markets to build productive economies. More recently, frontier markets like Mongolia have been driving investment in the latest cutting-edge financial technology to empower their economies and engineer the future of financial services.
Fintech is not a phenomenon exclusive to banking centers such as New York, London, and Singapore. It now plays a significant role in financial services globally, services integrated with most major life decisions – from buying a home to opening a bank account, setting up a credit card, starting a business, paying for education, or planning for retirement – no matter where we are located. Fintech is about making banking and financial services faster, safer, more efficient and easier to utilize. It is the accelerator through which money is moved, spent, saved, and loaned, and is at once both global and local.
New opportunities to innovate and grow make frontier markets fertile ground for entrepreneurs and investors. With the right incentives and infrastructure, unleashing this potential will create the next models, products and services that change the world.
Regulators play an important role as agents of consumer empowerment, enabling good choices and encouraging new players and innovation to drive value in financial services. Since new business models do not always fit regulations from previous generations, working together to build new frameworks will provide stability and growth.
The Frontier Fintech Summit is taking place from May 9-11, 2019 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to provide a bridge that brings together top-tier Fintech talent, well-respected financial services institutions, investors, and regulators to discuss ideas that are driving innovation and shaping our future. It is an opportunity for open dialogue to discuss the state of the art, regulation, growth and policy, ethics and the role of Fintech innovation in the evolving economies of a digital world.
Join us in exploring the opportunities and potential of frontier markets together.
Emerging markets such as Mongolia have been benefiting dominantly from investments directed to commodity markets. But, in recent years, frontier markets have looked to the forefront of the latest technological developments to empower their economies, from mobile banking and shopping to robotics, autonomous vehicles, healthcare and more.
Fintech is not a phenomenon located solely in the banking centers such as New York, London, and Singapore. It is closely associated with the financial services industry, which plays a key part in almost every major life decision we make, from buying a home to opening a bank account, setting up a credit card, starting a business, paying for education, or planning for retirement, no matter where we are located. Fintech is about making the role banks and financial services play easier and more efficient. It is the oil, the fuel, the platform, the electric current through which money is moved, spent, saved, and loaned. It is the agora, the gathering place, the bazaar or marketplace for a wide variety of consumers at all levels and backgrounds of the economic pyramid to come together to transact. It is global and it is local.
We strongly believe that frontier markets such as Mongolia are very exciting and full of potential for entrepreneurs and investors to step in and explore. There is simply so much room and need to innovate and create models, products and services that will change the world.
We also see the role of regulators as that of empowering consumers to make good choices, and encouraging new entries and innovation – to drive value in financial services.
Fintech firms, not only startups but also tech giants, often struggle with how to initiate conversations with regulators – the Frontier Fintech Summit will provide such an avenue, with an approach tailored for both sides. New business models may not fit easily into regulations designed around the previous generation – we can directly hear from individual firms on their ideas and requests on navigating the regulatory framework, and take soundings about which aspects of it may need to be reviewed and put into actual work in policy. We want to hear if innovation is stymied by regulatory barriers, and ensure that frameworks remain relevant and effective in an evolving world.
Frontier Fintech Summit is an opportunity to open dialogue with industry to discuss innovative ideas and regulatory nuances specific to fintech innovations in frontier markets.
We are gathering well-respected financial service institutions around the world along with top-tier entrepreneurs and investors in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in the heart of the Asia from the 9th to 11th of May, 2019.
